Let me begin by saying...Drew, I am SO proud of you!  Your Spanish was correct! :)  Punto Uva = Grape Point and Porto Viejo = Old Port   

And, we've only started on this tale, but the "friendliness" of your driver and him seeming to know EVERYONE in Costa Rica is quite common amongst taxi drivers in Latin America.  I can't wait to hear the rest!</description>
